Perhaps the ones she printed - were her favorites.Ronnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3057826380522065501.post-8222538629432354582012-01-23T12:08:00.102-05:002012-01-23T12:08:00.102-05:00The likely explanation is different film formats. ...The likely explanation is different film formats. the rollei doesn't do half frame as far as I know, since it wouldn't make sense for landscape orientation because of the waist-level view finder. The real most likely explanation is that she cropped.edmundxwhitehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04792776926800619857noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3057826380522065501.post-88136050197488025562012-01-23T11:43:35.211-05:002012-01-23T11:43:35.211-05:00One technical question for you aspect ratio geeks ...One technical question for you aspect ratio geeks out there. Maier primarily used a Rolleiflex camera, as is easily seen in her many self portraits where she is holding the camera. All of the modern prints are 12x12, that is square format. And yet, when you look at the prints on display that she made herself in the 50s, virtually none are square format. Most are closer to 4x3 or slightly enlarged, but not perfectly square. As a fellow visitor noted, in one picture, she is actually holding two cameras, one of which was 35mm, so this would explain some of wider images. Karen Marks from the gallery assured me there was no cropping or resizing of the images when they were printed. So does a Rolleiflex make square images or not, and what would explain the slight difference in sizes? Just curious...DLKCOLLECTIONhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14875914464454488384noreply@blogger.com
